At the top of my blog in the description you will find the words, “Letters To The Limberlost.”
The Limberlost was a vast swamp in the state of Indiana a long time ago and covered something like 13,000 acres.
I remember visiting some friends in a place something like the Limberlost a few years ago…. a place called “Land Between The Lakes” somewhere in the state of Tennessee. Nobody lives there now because the government took it over and is managing it now. Land Between the Lakes was not all that swampy but it was pristine and wild..even in the late 1980s. My friend who lived there was “Many Horses” an elderly woman of Indigenous American Heritage.
There was a movie about the Limberlost a long time ago: A GIRL OF THE LIMBERLOST Of course, I thought it was boring but in later years, I began to appreciate the life and lifestyles of people who are usually considered “Ordinary Every Day Folks.” I, myself was raised by Ordinary Everyday Folks.”
Thanks for explaining that, John. I had looked it up, and found all of this. Best wishes, Pete.
“The Limberlost” primarily refers to the historic wetland in Indiana and two well-known literary works.
The Limberlost Swamp
A Girl of the Limberlost (1909)
Limberlost (2022)
Would you like more details on the Indiana swamp history, the 1909 novel, or Robbie Arnott’s book?
Thanks, Pete.. that is a lot of good information and I appreciate receiving it.
Whew! Thanx for clearing that up….chuq
