Gourmet dinner for two by candle light in run down hotel room where dust, dirt and cobwebs dominate everything — a special delight for a broken down bankrupt billionaire who once had everything and now has almost nothing.
But the one-time-billionaire did get to keep his gold watch that cost more than a few people’s houses and his $236.00 per ounce man’s cologne that drives all the ladies out of their minds and presents unmistakable presence wherever he goes.
That is not me, folks, that is somebody else.
But I do manage to have a gold-colored watch with fake diamonds and it looks as good as the real thing if you want my opinion and I do wear the $330.00 per 5 ounce bottle of cologne because I love it and it gets compliments every where I go. I also manage, somehow to keep $500 us dollars in my wallet most of the time. (Chump change.)
I no loner live in a mansion although I often refer to our spacious custom built one-floor ranch style brick home as “The Manse.” (Or “The Mansion.) — but a true mansion it is not. The true mansion had 24 rooms. This one has far fewer than that. The mansion sat on a 500-acre lot in the country and this one sits on a One acre lot in the better part of the town where I live.
I do still manage to have a “Broker” who manages a portfolio for me.
I had to give up consuming alcohol because of my age my heart problem and I no longer smoke cigarettes. In fact I gave up cigarettes 22 years ago. I stopped drinking when I was around 70 years old. I always liked to drink because i signed many a contract over a glass of Benedictine aperitif and I have to admit that it helped my sex life too until she got tired and bored and started running around.
I still get driven wherever I want to go but it is no longer in a large town car with a chauffeur — now it is in a red American Model car with room for four people and it is driven by my friend and constant companion. Other than that, I still have the luxury of ordering a Uber cab if I want to go somewhere without the hassle of traffic. The good part about that is that I can go alone or take my friend with me for the same price. Two can ride together in a Uber for one price in our part of the world.
I haven’t been in a good Five-Star restaurant in years now but that is because after all the years of eating out or being served at home by caterers and a good cook, I decided I can make the steak just as good as the restaurants. I still buy steaks from a local butcher but rarely if ever from a super market. Super market meat does not appeal to me for some reason…it kind of tastes like cardboard …The butcher meat is fresh and tender and good even though it costs a little more. For example, Three good Kansas City Cut steaks about an inch thick now cost a total of $75 u.s. dollars.
Of course, half of what I have just written is either lies or enhancements of the truth– but a goodly portion of it is true regardless…. you make the decisions about what is true and what is not. For example my wallet situation is true as I have described it.) (So is the cologne.)
I have some breathing problems these days and it is suspected to be caused by a narrowing of the upper airways in a situation called tracheomalasia. So I do feel lucky when i wake up in the mornings. I also find it intriguing that the supposed-to-be smart spelling corrector can’t spell “Tracheomalasia.” I am glad that I do not pay for the damned thing.
I have a corn on the outside of my right little toe and the damnable thing causes me all kinds of grief when it radiates its’ torture for me. The toe doctor (Podiatrist) has filed on the corn a couple of times but that doesn’t do much good. I wear compression stockings for the swelling in my legs and they do not help the corn thing either.
O.k. friends and neighbors — I will get off here for now and get into the bed and try to rest– but I almost know that by early in the morning before the rooster crows, I am going to be in my easy chair in the main living room because I have discovered that I can rest better in that thing than i can on my Thousand Dollar mattress… (which is also true.).
Have a rest and take care of yourself…..chuq
I had to look up Fig Newtons. We call them ‘Fig Rolls’ here, and Julie and I both like them. I had a bad corn once, in my 30s. It really hurt when I was working in heavy shoes and I went into a pharmacy and asked for advice. They sold me a product called ‘Carnation Corn Caps’, like a strong Band-Aid with some kind of formula inside. In less than 24 hours, the corn was gone. I looked them up and they are available online in America. Best wishes, Pete.
